The key to this project was the clients' desire to build a modern family home with clean lines and contemporary design features, placed in a rural setting with beautiful views over the countryside and close to amenities and transport connections.

The clients' desire was to build a modern family home with clean lines and contemporary design features. The modern design of Weald House blends harmoniously with its surroundings by the means of the use of simple building materials (mainly light render and natural larch cladding) which can weather naturally. The fenestration is determined by the functions of different rooms which are located in a way that allows the best possible protection of the occupants' privacy, and prevents over-looking of the neighbouring properties.

The modern design blends harmoniously with its surroundings by the means of the use of simple building materials (mainly light render and natural larch cladding) which can weather naturally. The fenestration is determined by the functions of different rooms which are located in a way that allows the best possible protection of the occupants' privacy, and prevents over-looking of the neighbouring properties.

The north and west façades are kept plain and simple with modest fenestration mainly for service rooms, some with semi-opaque glazing to avoid over-looking. The southern projection of the building houses the kitchen on the ground floor and the master suite on the first floor providing natural surveillance of the entrance, garden and the eastern and southern boundary of the site which are more easily accessible from the open fields. The gated access provides a strong sense of ownership and privacy.

The east and south aspect of the building comprise a greater amount of glazing to take advantage of the outstanding views where possible and to provide a more direct connection to the approach and garden side.

The internal layout comprises a classic division of the living and service areas on the ground floor and bedrooms on the top floor. The modern house is laid out as a comfortably sized family home and is able to accommodate a potential increase in spatial requirements in the future or indeed generation living.
